Everyday, the team from Service Innovation Labs develops new business models and innovative services from the idea to market implementation, together with DAX companies. Within the project-work, the professional expertise from SI Labs, the motivation and empathy to generate innovations, as well as teamwork and mutual support are key aspects for the successful realization of the projects.
SI Labs wanted to share and use this special mixture of skills and mindsets to promote meaningful social-oriented business models. For this reason, we collaborated with Ideas in Motion. Ideas in Motion is the exciting and first business-incubator-program in Berlin, supporting newcomer entrepreneurs from Syria to realize their business ideas. In this context, the business ideas of the newcomer entrepreneurs are quite diverse: For instance, Fadi Al Shalabi, a lecturer from Damaskus, wants to build an online-education-platform for the Arabic world in times of mass migration. Another newcomer entrepreneur is Kussay Chi Chakly - whereas he previously designed haute couture dresses in Syria, he now wants to capture the Berlin-fashion-scene with unique and locally produced street wear.
In the course of cooperation, SI Labs supported Fadi, Kussay und six other entrepreneurs to realize their vision and to shape the German economy with their business ideas. Nine Business and Service Designers from SI Labs gave workshops to the entrepreneurs over the last four months. Different practices as well as Business Design and Service Design methods were taught, which the SI Labs Experts usually apply in the daily project-work with their clients. To name an example, the first workshop focused on user research and the identification and definition of customer needs. As a result, customer journeys and personas were developed. In further workshops, the business ideas were concretized, first prototypes were developed and tested with real users. Also helpful tools like the business model canvas were applied or the profitability of the concepts was tested.
Overall, the collaboration with Ideas in Motion and the entrepreneurs was greatly inspiring and characterized by strong team spirit, implementation success and a lot of fun on both sides. An entrepreneur noted: „The workshops were fantastic. I was amazed how Service Innovation Labs helped me to transform my business idea into a user-centered service that fulfills true customer needs."

Ideas in Motion press-event
Due to the successful collaboration and the great public interest, Service Innovation Labs invited journalists and editors to a press-event in May. Deep insights into the collaboration were given and the newcomer entrepreneurs presented their business ideas and shared first success stories. After the press-event, a meetup about "Service Design for Social Good" was hosted at our office.
It was an amazing press-event and meetup! Click on the photos and presentation slides for further information!
