MeetUp Business Design: How to design a platform business

Time was ready: We kicked off our meetup series „Business Design & Growth Hacking“ this Wednesday!

We invited the community to join us and talk about the challenges of a platform business model and how to grow and iterate platforms!

Amazed by close to 100 sign-ups, we started the discussion with two talks and an interactive breakout session!

After a short introduction of David and Kai, the organizers of this new gem in the Berlin MeetUp-Ecosystem, Stephan gave a talk about our perspective on platforms and the beauty of this particular business model.
He illustrated his talk with insights from his latest project Mobiko, where the team started a platform as a B2B business in order to attract customers before searching for providers.

After that, Christoph, who worked with Aydoo to go the way from paper prototypes to a bookable platform for craft-themed workshops, shared his experience in selecting the “most critical assumption to be tested”. His talk was about the intersection of Business Design and the „The Lean Startup“-approach. Therefore the talked about how you test & iterate your venture quickly to find promising business opportunities.

After the talks, there was a short breakout session: all participants were invited to create ideas on platform business models for leading German companies and identify the most critical assumption – we loved the interactive part and inventive atmosphere!

It was a blast and a worthy start of this series. We are really looking forward to our next event and the discussion that we got started among the Business Designers of Berlin and beyond.

Best regards,
the SI Labs Business Designers
